I was sitting in my Interdisiplinary Inquiry class today kind of spacing off. I noticed all the binders that were sitting on the desks next to me. The ones that I ended up looking at were all completely different. Then I noticed the people that went with each notebook. It was really interesting the connections i made.
For example there is my notebook. It is a navy blue very conservative University of Washington Bothell notebook. There are no bright colors, it is all very professional. I am aspiring to go to Law School and become a criminal prosecuting attorney.

Then I looked at Sarina Macke's notebook. She has a Disney Channel notebook covered in very colorful and bright Faries. It is very fun loving and exciting. Sarina is aspiring to become an elementary school teacher and loves being creative and working with younder children.

The last notebook i looked at was Cate Fosters. She has a bright colored striped notebook. It is very plain compared to Sarinas, but it is also very bright and cheery compared to mine. Now Cate is aspiring to either be a journalist (which is a very creative job) or to work in an Art Museum. Both of these while not quite as creatively challenging as Sarina's job but it does require a certain amount of 'color' and spirit.

It was just really interesting, i let my mind wander and came up with this. hmmmm.... i wonder what my mind will wander off to next.

Passion
PASSION-The state of the mind when it is powerfully acted upon and influenced by something external to itself; the state of any particular faculty which, under such conditions, becomes extremely sensitive or uncontrollably excited; any emotion or sentiment (specifically, love or anger) in a state of abnormal or controlling activity; an extreme or inordinate desire; also, the capacity or susceptibility of being so affected; as, to be in a passion; the passions of love, hate, jealously, wrath, ambition, avarice, fear, etc.; a passion for war, or for drink; an orator should have passion as well as rhetorical skill.
http://www.brainyquote.com/words/pa/passion199957.html
Passion is something that once you have it it will never leave you... not completely. You may at times get discouraged but it will eventually come back to you. I have a passion for singing. It is my life and my way of expression. Without music and voice i would not be the person that i am today.

The Appreciation of Life
You know what i just thought about.... How much this quarter has actually changed me. I notice things now, i actually pay attention to details when I'm driving or walking to class or working. Its really weird to see things that you have missed for so long, i feel like my eyes have been opened. For example I went to Downtown Seattle last night for my friends birthday. As we were leaving the first bar i looked across the street and saw some of the most interesting graffiti i have ever seen in person. The thing is, when i was standing there looking at it, i realized that if i hadn't done this presentation and research on graffiti and listened to the lectures about it, i would never have noticed it or appreciated it. How much of a waste would that be, to miss something so beautiful in the middle of a city covered in advertisements. It reminds me the the saying "A diamond in the rough". The picture below is the picture I took on my phone of the graffiti i was talking about. I hope you all can appreciate it as much as i did!
BARBIE
OBAMA VS MCCIAN

I remember Joe talking about a website that i decided to go check out. Streetsy.com. It was actually really interesting. I spent quite a while searching through the website. This picture stood out to me. It really shows how you can take a couple ordinary election pictures and create art with them. I also was really interested in the placing of this art. It is on a huge billboard/poster that covers the entire wall. Its something you just cant miss. If this was printed on a normal sized sheet of paper and posted on a telephone pole or something it wouldnt have near as much dramatic effect.
The only comment that this picture had on the website was "Brainwashed...." Im kinda of confused on this i guess. Are they talking about the art being posted the way it is and us actually paying attention to it, or the picture that was displayed. In this case the election results.

MUSIC these days
This music video really made me think about music in general these days. Where rap uses the terms "bitches" and "hoes" country is a lot about empowering women. Its really interesting to see the major differences in genres

AUDIO BUSINESS... the everyday
I decided to just listen to my everyday life and see what sounds i would pick out that would be interesting. I ended up deciding on the rainstorm that was happening outside my apartment and my roomate typing on her computer. I tried to overlap the two a little bit and you wouldnt believe how long it took me! haha Hope you like it!

Some things that make you think....

I recieved this from a friend and thought i would pass it on to you! (Thought you might appreciate it like I did!)
Question 1:
If you knew a woman who was pregnant, who had 8 kids
already, three who were deaf, two who were blind,
one mentally retarded, and she had syphilis, would
you recommend that she have an abortion?
Think before you answer.
Question 2:
It is time to elect a new world leader, and only
your vote counts. Here are the facts about the three
candidates.
Candidate A.
Associates with crooked politicians, and consults
with astrologist. He's had two mistresses. He also
chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.
Candidate B.
He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until
noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of
whiskey every evening.
Candidate C
He is a decorated war hero. He's a vegetarian,
doesn't smoke, drinks an occasional beer and never
cheated on his wife.
Which of these candidates would be our choice?
WELL……
Candidate A is Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Candidate B is Winston Churchill.
Candidate C is Adolph Hitler.
And, by the way, on your answer to the abortion
question: If you said YES, you just killed
Beethoven.
Pretty interesting isn't it? Makes a person think
before judging someone.
Wait till you see the end of this note! Keep
reading.
And Finally, can you imagine working for a company
that has a little more than 500 employees and has
the following statistics:
* 29 have been accused of spousal abuse
* 7 have been arrested for fraud
* 19 have been accused of writing bad checks
*117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at
least 2 businesses
* 3 have done time for assault
* 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
* 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
* 8 have been arrested for shoplifting
* 21 are currently defendants in lawsuits
* 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the
last year...
Can you guess which organization this is?
Give up yet?
It's the 535 members of the United States Congress.
The same group that crank out hundreds of new laws each year
designed to keep the rest of us in line.
Never be afraid to try something new.

THE BLOGGER WORLD!

http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/81/blog.html
I read this article about a man who is a significant blogger and is said to be the most powerful person in Redmond. He blogs close to 30 blogs in a night. He blogs about almost everything. He doesn't just blog about everyday life but about technology. He is in fact a microsoft empolyee who is very skilled in the technical part of the blogging world. You will read in this article that he doesn't just blog to vent or to inform others of his knowledge, he also gets feed back from other technilogically savy people about new products he is putting out for microsoft. He is using the blog world as a resource. I thought you might enjoy this artile like i did!
Surrealism

"Surrealism is not a school of poetry but a movement of liberation.... A way of rediscovering the language of innocence, a renewal of the primordial pact, poetry is the basic text, the foundation of the human order. Surrealism is revolutionary because it is a return to the beginning of all beginnings."

Genealogies: Writing through writing through writing

I actually won’t be able to make it to this event because I unfortunately have to work, so instead I thought I would do my own research on the topic because I know absolutely nothing about it and it sounded interesting. I thought I might start out with the definition I found of Genealogy. Genealogy is “the study of families and the tracing of their lineages and history. Genealogists use oral traditions, historical records, genetic analysis, and other records to obtain information about a family and to demonstrate kinship and pedigrees of its members. The results are often displayed in charts or written as narratives.” According to Wikipedia.org.
So since I am not able to go to this event I thought I might respond to the title. I’m just going to talk and guess what they will be talking about.
How do people know exactly who their ancestors are? By word of mouth? People or parents telling them that they are related to so and so. That their great great great great grandfather was this guy in this book. Who is to say that my great grandfather times 50 wasn’t the President of the United States. Its all based on people keeping track of the right people and other people not lying about it. What about adoption. Are you supposed to pick up your new adopted families family tree or are you supposed to keep your biological one. And what if you don’t know about your biological history, are you supposed to just start a new one with you? This is, in my opinion, just one big grey area to look into.
Warhol (Required Prompt)

“Over the years I’ve been more successful at dealing with love than with jealousy. I get jealousy attacks all the time. I think I may be one of the most jealous people in the world. My right hand is jealous if my left hand is painting a pretty picture. If my left leg is dancing a good step, my right let gets jealous. The left side of my mouth gets jealous when my right side is eating something good. I’m jealous at dinner that somebody else will think of something better to order than I did. I’m jealous of somebody’s blurred Instamatics even when I have my own sharp Polaroid’s of the same scene. Basically, I go crazy when I can’t have first choice on absolutely everything.” (page 49 and 50.)
-This passage of Warhol’s really stood out to me. I have never thought of things quite the way he does so this came to a surprise to me. I have never even considered that one part of your body could be jealous of another. I cant tell if he means this as a metaphor to show just how jealous he is, or if he means it literally. I wouldn’t put it past him if he did.
I have always thought of myself as a jealous or competitive person. But its usually not shown. I like to be the best at something when I put my all in it. I’m an only child so I also like to be the “only”. I’m my mothers only child, my grandparents only grandchild, the only person my boyfriend ever thinks about, my best friends only best friend. I am going to be the only criminal lawyer in the family, the only person with a skydiving license and the only person to back pack Europe for six months. I have all these dreams and aspirations that I want to accomplish and yet when I read this one little passage it makes me look at everything differently. I never realized that I was like this until I read this. “My right hand is jealous if my left hand is painting a pretty picture.” It was put so perfectly.
There is something about Warhol’s words that really make you think. You can’t help but to look at everything in a different perspective. I never thought I would say this but I really enjoy reading a required text!

I have always thought about the excitement of getting married. There are phenominal pictures of beautiful wedding bands. It stirrs up thoughts and hopes and dreams of mine that I never thought I could feel. I have always wondered who I might marry and if I would ever marry another after him. I don’t believe in divorse myself, but I believe that it all explains itself in due time. I think beautiful things are just meant to happen the way that they do.
But I also don’t believe that people who don’t try will get everything they want. You have to work for anything extra you may want. A man once told me that I will never get anywhere in life unless I yell kick and scream for it. So I do that in my own way. I am a business woman. That is who I am and who I will always be. I will never change my persons for someone else. I will never become a camellion as others do. I stand strong as I am and will never change. I will never change.
Who is to tell you who to be. I wonder if there is such a person. Who should be allowed to be that intermixed into your life that you would take their guiding directions no questions asked. Does this person actually exist? Would they do everything they could to help and benefit you, or would they be like everyother human on this earth and in some way benefit themselves? Who is to answer the questions that I ask? Who should have that power? Why so many questions? When will they stop? Where will they lead?
Who is Andy Warhol? Where does he get his insite and experience. Where does he get his drive and enthusiasum. On this site there are pictures of Darth Vador from Star wars. Who is our worlds Darth Vador? What would Warhol say about him?

Passage a l'acte
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drDPbKquQVw
I unfortunately didn't get the chance to finish this movie in class because i had another class to attend but when i got home i got to watch the Youtube clip that Joe sent to us in our e-mails. Something i would like everyone to try would be to listen to this movie without watching it. Close your eyes and just listen to the sounds. I tried this and it actually (i don't know if it is just the way my mind works) makes sense. You can hear completely different words than what they were saying in the first place. You can make out a whole different scene in your head. It almost turned into a music of some sort. I would love to hear peoples feed back on this and what kind of scenes people come up with!

Un Chien Andalou

I don't believe that i was understanding this movie the way i was supposed to. Especially this beginning part, it really kind of "freaked me out". It was just something i wasn't expecting. But like you learn in life sometimes thing don't exactly turn out or happen the way you expect them to. This movie really moved in my opinion around that word we learned about closer to the beginning of the quarter "drifting". It really drifted around and went to complete randomness. At first i tried to pick out a pattern from it all but realized that there was no pattern to find. It was really interesting to imagine all the different ways this film could have gone and trying to figure out why these certain paths were chosen. I don't know a lot about Un Chien Andalou but it is definitely something that i would enjoy to learn more about.
The Word "Personality"

I typed in the word personality in google and chose the first picture that stood out to me. It's interesting to see what some people depict of the word personality. There are so many different personalities out there. Theres the extroverted type or the introverted type. There is the sarcastic type and the mellow type. I could go on forever.
i always hear people talking about someone having no personality. Well i don't think that that is possible. Who is to say what personality is, therefor nobody can judge either way. I see way too many people make quick assumptions and judgements about peoples personalities before they even know the person. For example this picture. I could say that this bride looks very happy and quiet therefore she ha a mellow laid back persona. But what if she is screaming inside her head, getting stressed out about the cake not being there and her dress being wrinkled. Then what would you say... is she still a mellow laid back girl?
What about the gentleman who is meditating. He looks very peaceful. But what if he is only meditating because he is court ordered to go to anger management classes and this is what they are telling him to do. People often make quick assumptions with out getting the facts. It would be interesting to me to see what kind of assumptions people make about me.

Life Chance to have a Sister or a Brother

The brother sister bond is a very close one. Here the older brother tries to pass on his knowledge to his little sister. The brotherly instinct is to try and protect his sister from any kind of hurt. His parents I'm sure instilled very thorough family values in him when he was just a child. She is very apprecitative to his attentiveness. They are so close. When they grown older they will still be side by side. He will be there for her first date, to make sure she comes home safe. She will be there through his first break up and comfort him and tell him that everything will be alright. They will be there for each other when their parents decided that they are old enough to know that they will be getting a divorce. They will then be their own parents and help each other through these times.
These are typical experiences that family's go through together. They will both be there to celebrate her graduation from art school and his graduation from medical school. She will be there when he looses his first patient. And He will be there when she doesn’t get cast in her first play. It’s a bond that nobody can break. Through heart break and happiness, through family troubles and job woes. Family ties like these just don’t go away.
I am an only child. I wish and wish and wish that I had someone to share a bond like this with. But then I think about my mother. My mom is my absolute best friend. She feels like a sister to me. I have always been really mature for my age so she really didn’t have all that much to parent me on. She has always just been a friend and a sister more than a authority figure such as a mom. I love having that kind of bond with someone. I never really realized I had this until I almost lost it. My mother had a cardiac arrest and went into a coma for 12 days. They said that they didn’t think that she was going to make it. It didn’t know what to do. But by some miracle she made it out and after a few years of therapy and physical rehabilitation she is completely fine! How amazing is that!
The minds of Children and Adults

Children swarming. The exhibit they see excites their senses. There's pushing and shoving to be the first one to see each amazing exhibit. They are in awe and what they see. A gigantic bear. Real! But stuffed… but that’s okay it still used to be real. The emotions that run through their heads are extreme. The thrill of being somewhere out side of the classroom during school hours. The nervousness of this huge creature and how it used to be able to kill little children like them. The hot breath on my neck from my classmates behind me. Seeing something I have never seem before.
Children have such a different mind set than adults do. They are way more open an have twice the size of imagination. They may look at this exhibit and think of a story they just read or they may leave and at recess the next day role play the part of the bear and turn it into a story of their own. Where adults look at this bear with knowledge. They see the history behind it and don’t trust it. They know exactly where the bear has been and where it would have gone if it hadn't been killed when it did. Some may feel remorse for having killed a living creature while others may feel relieved by it because they are now out of danger. But the point is that adults think about these exhibits completely differently than children do. Their imaginations done roam… they merely think of the facts. That’s all the imagination we have now that we have gone through the educational system. Though we still have some what of an imagination, it is sort of… how would you say it….. “cut short”.

Loneliness. The thought of going nowhere and everywhere all at once. Where to go first, who to talk to first, who to see first. They are so many choices. How does one become lonely? Loneliness comes at you like a bear to honey. It comes and it sticks till it sucks everything out of you. What can you take out of your loneliness? Who is to say exactly what it is. I was born a fraternal twin but my brother died at birth. People tell me that I'm supposed to feel lonely for the rest of my life, like some part of me died with him. I can’t tell the difference. I guess I would only know if I had lived with my brother and then lost him. How are you supposed to know what you lost if you never had it.
There are so many different stages of loneliness. This man looks like he is searching for something, what I'm not sure. It seems like he is willing to give up everything on his back to find it. Where will be go to find what he is looking for? Is it a person, a calling or a way of life? Where do you start. He is taking everything he owns with him for he knows he may never come back. Sometimes when I get lost in thought I feel like I should just pick up and go…. Find my true calling, find exactly where I'm supposed to be. How do I know that I am destined to live in Washington state for the rest of my life. How do I know that I am destined to be a criminal prosecuting attorney. How do I know I'm not meant for something completely different. Where do you start looking for these answers?

WHAT A SUPRISE!

So this morning i woke up expecting just another normal day. Get up, eat breakfast, go to class. Get there at aroud 8:15 to miss traffic, have a little time to grab coffee and read. Go to my three classes, get out around 3:30 and then go to work. Thats the typical monday that always happens... or so I thought.
When I walked outside my apartment at about 8am i got in my car and turned it on. But something felt off... a little "tilted". I turned off my car and got out. And to my suprise that back drivers seat tire was completely flat!! I find out latter that i must have driven over a nail the night before on my way home.
Well that just started out that "non-everyday" events for my monday. Well my car is brand new and i havent had time to go get a spare tire (not that i would know how to change the tire if i did have it). So i had to call AAA, they towed my car to a Good Year around the corner so they could change my flat tire.
So over $200 latter i was finally on my way to school just barley getting to my second class on time! WOW what an interuption to my Normal Everyday Life! Grrrrrr!

CANASTA!!!!!!

So my mom and I played a game called Canasta. I absolutely love this game. Whenever I play this game I get lost and totally tune out everything around me. It has been my mom and my "thing" for as long as I can remember.
This game really is all about strategy. When you should put cards on the board or when you should keep them in your hand. You have to time it just right or you could miss out on a great opportunity. My playing style is "hording". I hord all my cards in my hand until the last second. This style can either play to my advantage or it can really hurt me in the long run. One way, is that nobody will know what cards I have so they could play one I really need. On the other hand somebody could "go out" and I would have to eat all the points that were left in my hand. Is all about timing.
Games like Canasta really can be compared to everyday life. You can play like like you do Canasta. For example like a new job, you can tell the ALL your skills right when you get hired to get looked apon in a better light, or you could hord some of those skills and when you go for a promotion show off the skills they never new you had. Its all the way you play the game of life. Personalities are all different therefore we all choose different paths to take.

"Quote" from The Everyday
"But why the everyday now?" (page 13)
The book is asking why all the fuss about the "everyday" now? Why not before, why not in 5 years, why not in 100 years? WHY NOW? I think that people before were in so much awwww of all the finer things in life. For example the Elizabethian ages. The big hair, the big dresses, the large glamorous balls, the expensive jewlery and all the fuss if you didnt have these things. Now people are more intuned to what is the "norm", what is just there. Thats why people are looking at Everyday life more often because they have become more accustom to all the fancy shmancy things and are now attracted to the things they see everyday.
We can use for example the kind of people you are attracted to. Guys always drool over the really tan, blonde, big boobed models in the magazine and yet when they look for a girl to date that is not the type at all. They look for more of a down to earth natural beauty. (This is just my views and what i have seen, im sure there are plenty of guys out there who would love the big boob, blonde model!)

Randomness
So over this past weekend and last begining of this week i have been really sick. I hate laying in bed for so long, but sometimes you have to.... but im not sure if anyone else has this happen to them, but if your in one place to long do you start noticing little details you never would have noticed before?
Well i have lived in the same apartment for about 7 months now and have had the same view off my balcony the entire time. (my apartment hasn't magically shifted somehow). Well i was sitting out there for about an hour (which i have never done) to try to get some fresh air because i havent been outside my apartment all week. I was sort of staring off into space when i noticed that the apartment building right across from me was blue. I dont know why that hit me as so strange but it did. All the other apartments are tan and brown and very nuetral, yet this one was blue. And it wasnt even a dull blue, i mean it was BLUE!
Has anyone else noticed something like that? Something they had been looking at for a long time and then finally realized that it was very odd?

20mins of silence
So I sat there for a while, for what seemed to me to be 20 minutes. Then I looked down at the clock and it it had only been four minutes. It's funny how fast time goes by when your mind is occupied, but when it "cant" be doing anything time just crawls by. Then I started thinking about not doing anything for another 16 minutes and reliezed that I was doing something while I waited. I was thinking. I was waiting. I was counting minutes. I was relaxing. Then it hit me, no matter what or where you are, you can never actually just sit there and do nothing. It's not possible. You are always doing something whether it's sleeping, thinking, meditating, sitting, staring or waiting. And while I was thinking about how to not do anything the time flew by me. The next thing I know I'm caught up in my thoughts and it's been 27 minutes of total silience. Let me tell you, it's a rare thing for me to get these days! It was a nice little time of well needed rest.
